GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt operates one of the leading particle accelerators for science. Currently, the new FAIR ( F acility for A ntiproton and I on R esearch) one of the world's largest research projects, is being built in international cooperation. GSI and FAIR offer the opportunity to work in this international environment with a team of employees committed to world-class science.
For the department Linac (LIN) we are looking for a
Physicist or Engineer (all genders)
Reference: 25.57-6680
to participate in development of the superconducting linear accelerator HELIAC (HElmholtz LInear ACcelerator). Currently at GSI the first cryogenic module of HELIAC is in test operation, further two cryogenic modules are in manufacturing phase.
Your tasks:
- Supervision of manufacturing of superconducting cavities
- Cryogenic test of rf-cavities including development of digital low level rf-system
Other tasks include:
- Operation of first cryogenic module
- Participation in beam times
- Participation in development and validation of beam dynamics code
- Operation of cryogenic infrastructure
Your qualifications and skills:
- University Master Degree in physics or engineering sciences or comparable qualification
- Ability and interest to work with mechanical systems and accelerator installations
- Knowledge in one or more of these fields: Radio Frequency, vacuum technology, beam dynamics
- Knowledge and interest in the design and construction of RF accelerator cavities and in the design of linear accelerators
- Team-oriented and safe working methods
- Good language skills in English and German
The following qualifications and skills are desirable:
- A PhD in accelerator science or physics
- Experience in Python programming
- Experience with analog and digital electronics
You may expect a multifaceted and interesting position within an internationally leading research institution.
For these positions we offer 3 year contract . Salary is as specified in the collective agreement for public employees (TVöD Bund), effective at GSI. Applications from the international community are invited.
