The DRESDEN-concept Genome Center offers a position as

Head of DcGC (m/f/x)
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 15 TV-L)

starting as soon as possible. The position is limited on a trial basis for a period of 24 months in accordance with § 31 of the TV-L (Collective Agreement for the Public Service of the Länder).

As the Head of the DcGC, you will assume a central leadership role in the strategic, scientific, and operational management of the center. In this capacity, you will be supported by a well-established and experienced team that will actively assist you in fulfilling your responsibilities and in further developing the DcGC.

Tasks:

  • scientific lead and overall responsibility for the operation of the DcGC in the areas of experimental research and scientific services – including scientific, organizational, financial, and personnel management
  • scientific conception and implementation of interdisciplinary, complex and innovative research and development projects, particularly in the scientific methodological advancement in the fields of single-cell and spatial genomics, epigenomics, multi-omics integration, and translational genomics.
  • particularly complex scientific research activities, along with academic advancement and the expansion of the research portfolio in the field of genome research and related areas – in particular through the establishment of AI-supported analysis platforms and cloud-based data infrastructures for the efficient processing of large-scale data sets.
  • Strategic development of the DcGC, taking into account the interests of the supporting institutions as well as economic framework conditions, ensuring optimal use of resources, cost control, and personnel management, including all related tasks
  • co-shaping organizational and strategic development processes in collaboration with other internal and external stakeholders - through continuous analysis and optimization of internal structures, workflows, and interfaces with the supporting institutions – with a particular focus on efficiency and cost-effectiveness
  • planning, management, and coordination of the overall budget, including regular reporting to the supporting institutions and funding bodies
  • professional advising the DcGC Steering Board on strategic matters, including the preparation of well-founded decision-making documents for the board and its offices, and implementation of resolutions by internal and external stakeholders
  • independent acquisition and coordination of third-party funding, as well as active support of researchers in applying for funding and in projects involving the DcGC
  • scientific conception, organization, and implementation of events and workshops tailored to specific target groups
  • promotion of interdisciplinary collaboration through targeted networking with national and international research institutions, specialized centers, and partner organizations – particularly in the field of genome research
  • personnel leadership of an interdisciplinary team, including the promotion of a constructive and motivating work culture, responsibility for strategic personnel development, and professional training of approximately 20 staff members

Anforderungsprofil:

Requirements:

  • university degree and a doctorate (PhD)in biology, biochemistry, medicine, or a closely related field
  • the advertised position requires a strong academic qualification, with proven research expertise in molecular genome research, particularly in modern high-throughput sequencing technologies (e.g., Next-Generation Sequencing), single-cell and spatial genomics, epigenomics, and multi-omics integration
  • professional experience in the specialized fields of molecular biology, genetics, genomics, or computational biology, ideally combined with in-depth knowledge of high-throughput sequencing, single-cell and spatial genomics, and multi-omics. Familiarity with bioinformatics analysis platforms, as well as AI-supported data processing and management, is desirable.
  • experience in applying for and managing in challenging and complex research projects, as well as in science management
  • ideally, experience in setting up and managing scientific service facilities (core facilities)
  • proven leadership experience, preferably in interdisciplinary and international environments
  • strong ability to work independently in a structured and conceptual manner
  • excellent team skills, strong organizational competence, and a pronounced service orientation
  • excellent communication skills, particularly with regard to effective collaboration in a diverse, collaborative, and interdisciplinary research environment
  • very good written and spoken proficiency in both German and English
