Tätigkeitsprofil:

The Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing, Cologne, was founded in 2008 with the aim to understand fundamental mechanisms of healthy ageing in various model systems. The institute is part of a network of research institutions in the Cologne-Bonn area dedicated to research on ageing and age-related disease, constituting a vibrant and collaborative environment. At the moment, we host employees from 40 different nations worldwide.
The Department for Molecular Genetics of Ageing is studying the regulatory mechanisms governing the aging process. We are interested in convergent mechanisms of ageing that are conserved between different signaling pathways and species. We combine genetic and chemical perturbations with systems biology approaches (-omics, imaging).

We are looking for a Master’s Student (f/m/d) for a computational thesis project.

The successful applicant will work on one of the following projects:

  • Analysis of splicing in the context of aging using available long- and short-read RNA-sequencing data
    or
  • Using a foundation model to develop a perturbation prediction model for aging

➢ Foundation models will be developed using different species, perturbations may be chemical or genetic

The specific scope of the project will be developed together with the student based on personal interests and skills.
